Permutation question

Dear experts,

Please have a look at the below question -

In how many of ways can 5 balls be placed in 4 tins if any number of balls can be placed in any tin?
(A) 5C4
(B) 5P4
(C) 5^4
(D) 4^5
(E) 5^5

Source : Nova Maths Bible
OA: D

I think the answer should be C. Since 1 tin can five balls, 4 tins can have 5.5.5.5 = 5^4

Please let me know your thoughts.

invalid question. sorry. we have to know more about the balls; are they identical i.e. indistinguishable, or does it matter which ball is in which tin? do yourself a favor and stick to GMAT questions and MGMAT questions, and you won' have to deal with questions that don't actually work..
