Q. x^2 >x, what is x? (MGMAT guide 3, pg no.187, Question No.9, the second statement)
Here, the answer to this statement is given as x<-1 or x>1.
I did not understand how X<-1 is an answer. Please find below how I arrived at the answer and request you to help me find the mistake.
x^2-x>0
x(x-1)>0 (both x and x-1 have to be positive or negative)
x>0 or x>1
x<0 or x-1<0 => x<1 How does it become -1?
I know that in absolute value, the inequality sign flips and sign changes in one case. Also, x^2>4, gives you x >2 or x<-2. Does this fact has to do anything in the above problem?
If you can help me with this problem, I can clear a major confusion in my mind regarding inequalities.
Thanks in advance,
Sneha.
