Profile Eval & input regarding Columbia ED?

by Stockton Blvd Mon Jan 05, 2009 6:36 am

Hi, I was hoping I could get some feedback on my chances at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Columbia & NYU and some focus around Columbia ED (whether my chances would drastically increase if I applied ED vs RD). Below are my stats:

GMAT: 720 (Q48, V41, 5.5 AWA)
Education: 3.9 BA in Econ from UMich
Work Experience: 3 years in Outsourcing Sales (by time of metric) at IBM Consulting
Nationality: Filipino
Extra-currics: Decent EC in undergrad with some leadership and involved with non-profit Asian American group after college.

I'm also concerned with how much leadership/community involvement do these five schools like to see and whether the light volunteer work I've done after college is sufficient? Let me know.

Note that there's a difference between "participation" and "achievement".

Anyone can participate. But fewer can accomplish - which only comes with significant commitment and dedication, a bit of talent, and luck (having the right opportunity open up at the right time).

If your extracurriculars are mostly "participation" and few achievements, then you should still be competitive for NYU and Columbia ED (yes, apply ED if you can). If you do have some real achievements that suggest you are "not just an average joe" then you will be competitive for HBS, Stanford and Wharton.
