Profile evaluation

Hi
I would like your advice concerning my profile:
Male
Age 31
Major Electrical Engineering
Masters in Aeronautics
Originally from Brazil
6/7 Years in Aerospace
Most of my work during this time has been technical, 3 years ago, due to my technical performance, I acquired a technical leadership position. Considerable international experiences (courses, presentations, articles, etc).
I have been working in Canada for the last 2 years.
Intermediate level of French
GMAT 710 (49Q 38V, 86% and 83%)
Target schools: 1-LBS, 2-Wharton, 3-Michigan 4-Duke.

My questions are:
Do you believe that retaking the GMAT helps ?

How do you see my chances in these schools ?

Hi lufesouza,

Thanks for writing in. Your GMAT score is in range for the schools you list and nicely balanced between verbal and quant. If you have your eye on Wharton and think you could gain an additional 30 points or so you may want to consider taking it again.

But I also suggest focusing a lot on making sure your story is apparent to the schools. You are on the older side of the candidate pool, already have a Masters and have very technical experience, which can scare schools away some times. You'll want to focus on your international experience and the leadership positions you've gained to counter these doubts. Plus you will want to frame a very clear story as to why you are seeking an MBA now and how it fits into your career plans.

As for the schools, I would say:
Wharton -- reach
Michigan -- somewhat competitive
LBS/Duke -- competitive
