Q13 MGMT Cat 2 - Solution may be mising a point

by him_y2u Tue Mar 04, 2014 3:18 pm

Hi Mgmat team,
Could you please confirm if the solution to this problem has missed out a condition..i.e taken x>0 & <0 as the case, instead of taking x-5 as > 0 and <0 case

Is |x - 5| < 5?

(1) x < -4

(2) x < 4

Approach I took :
Case 1: (x-5) >0 i.e. x>5
x-5 <5 --> x<10 so x lies between 5 and 10

Case 2: (x-5) <0 i.e. x<5
-x+5 <5 so x>0 so x is between 0 and 5

so ans would be D as forstmt (1) ans is no and (2) ans is yes.I know from strategy guides that both options should be consistent but do you think the question here has a problem or am I missing something.
Thanks in anticipation.
