Question regarding MGMAT QUANT Algoritm

by amm.c Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:53 am

Hello!

Apologize If I posted this topic in a wrong forum but I really need a question to this answer.

Today I did the MGMAT CAT4 and got 48 in Quant. I then reviewed and found out that I only missed 5 questions (3 for 700-800 level and 2 for 600-700 level). Last week I took CAT2 and got 46 in quant. For CAT2, I missed 14 questions in total (13 for 700-800 level and 1 for 600-700 level). What i wonder is why missing only 5 questions can lower my score this much.

Quick reply will be highly appreciated since I've got only 4 more days left till my D-Day.

Thank you.

Note: if you ever need a very quick reply, please don't just post in the forums - it's possible to wait up to a week for a reply (and not because we're ignoring you - but because we're not looking at every folder every day). In those circumstances, contact our office directly!!

Okay, the test is not scored based on percentage correct. Obviously, if you somehow (miraculously!) got them all right, you'd get the top score, or if you got them all wrong, you'd get the lowest score, but between those two extremes, it's really not about how many you get right vs. wrong. Rather, the major differentiator is the difficulty levels of the ones you get right vs. wrong.

The good news is, your score is moving in the right direction.

I'm concerned about one other thing. You mention doing CAT4 this week and CAT2 last week, which means you also had CAT3 somewhere in the middle? And you also mention having the real test in 4 days.

STOP DOING SO MUCH. You're tiring your brain out. You're getting ready to run a marathon. Don't run a practice marathon in the few days before the real thing.

Right now, today, your score is either where you want it to be or it's not. If it is, great. Rest (like an athlete) to get ready for the Big Day.

If your score is not where you want it to be, then nothing you can do in 4 days is going to result in a substantial change. If this is your situation, you have 2 reasonable choices: lower your goal score or postpone your test date.

Good luck!
