Ratio Problem in Data Sufficiency Question Format

by Guest Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:32 pm

EXAMPLE: What is the value of p if if rq is not equal to 0?

(1) r = 4
(2) q = 3r

A Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) is not sufficient
B Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) is not sufficient
C BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
D EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
E Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

The answer is B. Not sure how one can calcuate p from statement 2's ratio information.

Not sure you wrote the question correctly. As you have written the answer is E, because neither statement refers to p, and the stem gives no clues as to how p relates to q or r.

If you would like an instructor to address this, please don't forget to cite the author of the post. Also, please check your text as there appears to be a major typo, as the above guest pointed out.
