Request to evaluate my profile

by kumar4abhinav Mon Sep 17, 2012 5:38 pm

Hi Everyone ,
It would be very kindly of you to evaluate my profile and which universities would suit my profile.
GMAT
-710(Q-50,V-34),awaiting official scores .This is my 2nd GMAT attempt (my earlier attempt being 610 a year ago).
Education
- Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science and Engineering) with CGPA (6.82/10).My university did not have the GPA system of scoring as most Indian universities don't
-12th(63% Science Stream)
-10th (86.5% )
Work Experience:-
-Systems Engineer in Tata Consultancy Services-3 years
Supervising a team of 4 people since 1 year

Reason for MBA
I would like to see a bigger picture of things and take a bigger role .I would especially like to do MBA in Finace or Productions

Please suggest me a list of schools which should be my target and also universites which may be tough but reachable.
It would be a great help indeed as I am really confused

Hello,

Overall, your profile is very much in line with that of a typical candidate from your background (Indian Male Engineers). Unfortunately, this is an overrepresented demographic in business school, so this means you really have to work to differentiate yourself.

Academics: (Average) Good job on the GMAT. Seems that your score might be a little skewed (somewhat low verbal? not sure if that score gets you 80th percentile?), but luckily the ad coms weight the quant more than the verbal. Holistically, your academic profile is average compared with your demographic.

Professional: (Average+) While many candidates come from a software engineering background at a large company, very few have official management experience. I think this formal leadership responsibility will be a strong asset in your profile.

Extracurricular/Community: (Weak) I see no mention of EC or community activities. Both are important to the application process - you want to show balance and multi-dimensionality.

With all this said, I think you could try for programs like Tepper, Cornell, NYU. You could potentially try for Chicago or LBS, but these are somewhat reaches. Also consider some safeties in the US and possibly in India.

Good luck!
Mili
