SC: How to choose the set of Parallelism elements?

by TarekF572 Tue May 20, 2014 2:16 pm

Hi,
In the problem set of SC basic Manhattan GMAt, Question number 3; it asks to correct this sentence:
Many teachers choose to seek employment in the suburbs rather than facing low salaries in the city.

The answer was:
Many teachers choose to [SEEK employment in the suburbs (rather than) FACE low salaries in the city].

I have 2 questions:
1- why the below answer is not correct.
Many teachers choose [TO SEEK employment in the suburbs (rather than) TO FACE low salaries in the city].

2- How can you choose what set of parallel elements and decide to include "To" or another wording or not to include it?

Thanks in advance

Please post this question in the correct folder (MGMAT non-CAT verbal folder).

Thanks.
