SC: With her archaeologist husband,

by lssandeep Tue May 07, 2013 8:32 am

With her archaeologist husband, travels inspired several mystery novels by Agatha Christie; travelers to Egypt can still stay at the Old Cataract Hotel, the model for the hotel in one of Christie's most famous books.
A With her archaeologist husband, travels inspired several mystery novels by Agatha Christie
B Agatha Christie used her travels with her archaeologist husband to inspire several mystery novels
C Because her husband was an archaeologist, Agatha Christie was able to use their travels as inspiration for several of her mystery novels
D Together with her archaeologist husband, Agatha Christie was inspired to incorporate their travel into several of her mystery novels
E Agatha Christie's travels with her archaeologist husband served as inspiration for several of her mystery novels

I ruled out option E thinking that the possessive form of Ag Ch is not correct way to use as a pronoun referent. Can you please help? Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

My 2 cents:
a) I am sure you understand this has modified problem: Travels doesnt have a husband.
b) Agatha would not use her travels with husband to inspire
c) nothing is happening just because her husband is archeo.
d) is tricky but one way of seeing it is "together with her archeo husband, agatha.... : agatha is modifying "together with her archeo husband" --- what does that mean ? Had it been agatha along with her husband- we might still have paid it more heed. Also who is inspired ? agatha or agatha with her husband ?

That leaves E- E is also good because it says though awkwardly but clearly that agatha's travels served as an inspiration. ( with her husband should be ignored )
