Study plan

by ArielB305 Sun Jan 31, 2016 10:32 pm

Hi!

I have completed the 9 week course and overall I'm very happy. I took a CAT exam a on week 7 and scored a 630, which I was very happy about. Following finishing the 9 weeks, I stopped with the momentum I had for personal issues but getting back to it now. However, I don't have such a nicely set up program on what to cover and when. These are my points of weakness from the exam:

Number Properties
Algebra
Sentence Correction

But I don't know how to come about studying them. Do I just pick up the Manhattan Guide and read and do the whole book? What if I leave the other things away for too long and get weaker there?

More broadly, I'm looking for a study plan. Something that can help me bring it home (680+ - I'm applying for EMBA). I'm ready to put in a whole month of intensive studying including weekends.

Help!!

Hello! Did you do the Post-Course Assessment (PCA) at the end of your 9-week course? That was the 30-minute online meeting with an instructor to do exactly what you're looking for: develop your post-course study plan.

If you did and then stopped studying for a while, you can return to that plan and pick up where you left off.

But I'm going to guess you didn't do the PCA? If you're still within 30 days of class 9, you can sign up as soon as you take your third CAT (it sounds like you didn't do that yet - you only mention the 2nd CAT around class 7). Just schedule that CAT for, say, Saturday, and then immediately go sign up for your PCA in the Office Hours section of your student center.

If you're already outside of the 30 days (or will be by the time you can take CAT 3), then call the office (800.576.GMAT) and explain your situation and ask pretty please if you could possibly have an extension. I'm optimistic.

The instructor with whom you're paired will review your exams and any info you give when you sign up (such as goal score, etc) and then the two of you will meet and devise a plan.

Before that meeting, I recommend that you also analyze your tests yourself and come up with ideas for what you think you need to do. You're going to have to do this yourself later in your studies (eg, after you take your next test, you'll need to figure out how to adjust your plan based on how you did), so you might as well get some practice thinking about this when you have the opportunity to discuss your analysis with a teacher.
