Taking the GMAT - How many times is too many?

by C Thu Mar 06, 2008 10:09 pm

I have taken the GMAT 3 times. I have been waitlisted by WashU with a sub 600 score. I am planning on retaking the exam, but how many times is too many? Obviously if I get into the school I want this year it won't matter. However, what if I need to retake the exam again, for the 5th time to get an even higher score for next year?

Advice?

There is no real limit, although if your score is below a certain threshhold for a school (i.e. below 600 for most schools), you should take it as many times as you can to get it above it. Of course, if you're getting the same or similar scores after 3 or 4 tries even after taking prep courses like Manhatta GMAT, then chances are that's your steady-state score.
