The city has proposed a number of water treatment and conser

by SHOUMODIPR218 Fri May 12, 2017 1:42 am

The city has proposed a number of water treatment and conservation projects the cost of which raises water bills high enough so that even environmentalists are beginning to raise alarms.

A. the cost of which raises water bills high enough so that
B. at a cost raising water bills so high that
C. at a cost which raises water bills high enough so
D. whose cost will raise water bills so high that
E. whose cost will raise water bills high enough so that

Source : GMAT Prep.

Hi Ron,
Even though I got this question Correct (Option D), I would like to present my approach for your review.

Intended Meaning : City proposed some XYZ plans => These Plans will raise cost of water Bills => Since the expected bills will be high, the environmentalists are starting to raise alarms.

I identified the difference in meaning between bla bla bla high enough so that bla bla
and bla bla so high that bla bla
The first one means that the costs were raised intentionally, up to a threshold value, so that the environmentalists start to raise alarm. However, the second bold statement means that the new water treatment would raise costs unintentionally high, resulting in alarms from environmentalists.

So left with B and D.
In B , it seems the cost is proposed. But the meaning says the cost is predicted to be high in case the proposal is implemented. So B is out. Therefore D.

I hope Ron, you could point out the flaw in my approach and thinking, in the above explanation

hi,
is this problem from the FREE GMATPrep software?

• if so, could you please kindly post a screenshot of the problem, directly from the software?

• if not—if the problem is from PAID GMAC material—then, i apologize, but we can't host it here.

sorry for the inconvenience, but, after all these years, nearly every SC problem in the free software is already on the forum. so, for any problem that isn't yet here, we'll need pictorial proof of the source.
thanks.

Hi Ron

To be honest, I have been solving ONLY GMAT PREP question from gmatclub website.
I got this question from there. It is true that all the free questions have been addressed here. Probably this question have been either skipped here or does not belong to free portions of software.

So, It is okay if you lock this topic,

However, Could you advice me what should I do to know the best solutions of the GMAC problems, which do not belong to the free Packs.

for help with problems that aren't allowed on the forum, you could eventually schedule a private tutoring session (once you've accumulated enough material to justify such a session).
we don't offer any FREE resources that would provide additional help with those.
