The governor’s team of advisors, including her education and

Source: MGMAT CAT#5 question19

The governor’s team of advisors, including her education and political strategists, has not been available for comment since the release of her controversial education reform proposal.

(A) has not been available for comment since the release of her controversial education reform proposal
(B) have not been available for comment since the governor released her controversial education reform proposal
(C) has not been available to make comments since releasing her proposal on controversial education reform
(D) have not been available for comment since releasing her controversial education reform proposal
(E) has not been available to make comments since the release of her proposal on controversial reform in education

I got this question correct, but i think "her" ( the release of her controversial) doesn't have a proper antecedent.Obviously all the answer had "her" so that helped in cracking the right answer. Was this done on purpose-to show that we have to choose the most appropriate answer or can we learn some new rule from this question?

It does, actually! "her" is a possessive pronoun, so it is modifying the possessive "the governor's". Let me show you an easy example of this:

"Jane's dress is red and her shoes are green."

In this case, "her" is referring to "Jane's".

I hope that this helps! :-)

i have a small doubt in the explanation:

(C) "Since releasing" implies that this action was performed by the subject of the clause -- in other words, that the team of advisors, not the governor herself, released the governor's proposal.

I can understand it remotely but i think if you can give little more clarity with some example, it would really be helpful.

I dnt know how to ask exactly but i try:
I can make out what is written in the explanation so i said i can understand it remotely but because since releasing is correct , there is no noun mentioned so i dnt know on what basis i assume main noun as the noun after since.
and
i am concerned about releasing of her proposal and since the sentence "since releasing ...."is gramatically correct so why should i think too hard?

this may be one point but if there is any other concept related with the same point please let me know.

thanks!!

In this case you may be digging into this question a little too deeply. In real life it's highly likely that the governor's staff (or "team of advisors") would actually do the releasing of the proposal. Whether the staff or the governor does the releasing of the proposal is not particularly important or relevant. Instead we should focus on grammar and meaning problems in the four incorrect answers. I'm sorry if this isn't answering your question completely; I'm not quite sure what you are trying to ask and I hope that this will answer your question. :-)

yeah i got your explanation but my question is simple!!

My question was:"when i read this sentence "since releasing her proposal ",,it is understood as from the time of release,,,,,who release should not matter?
In other words, if there is no noun mentioned so i don't know on what basis i should assume main noun as the noun after since.

correct me if i am wrong:
so i can say that unless there is no noun mentioned as in "since released by him/governor" we should take main noun as the noun for the sentence "since releasing.....". Since here "by ____" is not mentioned so main noun will be taken as the one who performed this action(release)
(by___ is an example...it could be mentioned in any way e..g since governor released ______)

Sorry rte, but I'm having trouble with your question as well- you might need to rephrase it once more. I believe you are talking about the main noun of the sentence, which is actually "team" in this sentence. Here's the breakdown of the sentence:

The governor’s team of advisors, including her education and political strategists, has not been available to make comments since releasing her proposal on controversial education reform.

The governor's team has not been available since releasing her proposal.

Even when you have a warmup phrase like "since releasing the documents", you would need to immediately after express the main noun of the sentence.

Hope that helps.

Hi

Ok here is rephrase of my question:-

In the statement:
The governor's team has not been available since releasing her proposal.

Who has released the proposal?
according to explanation , i infer that team has released the proposal.

My questions:
1.) why should i assume that team has released the proposal?
is it because only one noun is given, so team released the proposal? unless no other noun is mentioned explicitly , main noun will be taken implicitly as the noun for releasing proposals
2.) what i assumed was : imp. point is "since releasing of her proposal", so it doesn't matter whether team released the proposal.
3.) I think the sentence should still make sense if i say
"The governor's team has not been available since releasing her proposal by Ram."

Hope the questions are clear. May be these questions sound stupid to you:(

(A) has not been available for comment since the release of her controversial education reform proposal
(E) has not been available to make comments since the release of her proposal on controversial reform in education

In the above options the word controversial changes the meaning of the sentence.

In option A controversial modifies the proposal and that makes sense

In option E controversial modifies reform in education and that doesnt make sense

Please confirm if my understanding is correct?

Yes, I agree that A has a clear meaning and that E does not make sense. :-)

Yes. The team is the only noun that could have done the action.
2.) what i assumed was : imp. point is "since releasing of her proposal", so it doesn't matter whether team released the proposal. If I understand what you are saying, I agree that the fact that the team released the proposal is not the most important point of the sentence. The unavailability of the team since releasing the controversial proposal is the more important part.
3.) I think the sentence should still make sense if i say
"The governor's team has not been available since releasing her proposal by Ram." I'm not understanding the "by Ram" here.

Hope the questions are clear. May be these questions sound stupid to you:(
