Words--into Algebra

by edavidson1 Wed Nov 16, 2011 7:16 pm

Any advice for finding/practicing turning words into algebra?
Also, for problems like number 170 PS OG, is it advised to definitely set up a table or can algebra do the trick?

Our books go into quite a bit of detail on this issue. Can you tell me what parts of the books’ descriptions of how to turn English in to math didn’t make sense to you?

I generally recommend using tables whenever you can to set up problems, because they are more organized and can often use fewer variables than a series of algebraic equations..

This is a forum for GMAT questions and techniques. While some of what you learn here will help with 8th standard algebra, we won't "be here to solve [your] problem" if it doesn't relate directly to the GMAT..
