"So as to" is not wrong.

* If it's wrong in a particular problem, then it's wrong in the context of that problem.

* If one of the OG explanations states that it's an entirely incorrect / unidiomatic construction, then that explanation is wrong. (A fair number of the OG explanations are wrong, although the quality of the questions themselves is high.)
