5th edition

by DavidH327 Sat Dec 23, 2017 4:53 pm

On pg372 #1 and #3 shouldnt answers be C (none of the above)?
1 says some A and some B
3 says most A and some B

Instead Answer (p374) suggest
1.B (some B some A)
3. B (some A some B)

(Sorry for the holiday delay!)

The inferences look solid to me.

“Some” = at least one
“Most” = more than 50%

If we say
#1 … some A’s are B
“at least one clown’s name is Eddie”
then it has to be true that some B's are A
“at least one person named Eddie is a clown”

And if we say
#3 …. Most A’s are B
“more than 50% of cats have fur”
then it has to be true that some A's are B
“at least one cat has fur”

Is there any part of that you disagree with?
