PT3, S1, G3 At an automobile exhibition

by c.s.sun5 Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:49 pm

Can someone please explain to me how to do this game? Especially to solve number 19, I got super stuck on it. I feel like I missed some big deduction here...

Thanks!!

Thanks for your post!

I've attached a diagram of the basic setup to this post. It's important to recognize that we're assigning three things to each floor of the exhibition: either F or S, either N or U, and either P or R. Each floor has to have some combination of F/S, N/U, P/R.

Since we're told that there are Used cars on floor 3, and that Used and Research can't go together, the one initial inference is that floor 3 has Production models.

For question 19, if all Production models are Used -- that is, if all P are U -- that means floor 1 must have R, since it already has N instead of U. Since R can't go with S, it must also be the case that floor 1 has F. So (A) is correct.

See if the attached diagram helps you attack this one; if you're still stuck, let me know what you're having trouble with.

Hi,

I have a question for no.19.
If 3rd floor has used, production cars, which could be inferred from the constraints given, wouldnt it be true that "(E) there are sports cars on floor 3" also must be true, since sports car cannot be Research models and thus have to be of production models? I think for this question both A and E are correct answers unless I went wrong somewhere...please clarify.
