Q17

by nickhall Tue Jun 10, 2014 11:03 am

I seemed to have missed #17 on this game. If Owen is in 1965 & MacNeil in 1967 -- how many other lawyers are known?

Any assistance. Really simple game, but I can't figure out what I did wrong -- and don't feel like staring at it any longer!

(I came up with 5?)

Let's walk through this:

If M is in 1967, how many other people can go in 1968? Only I. So I is in 1968 (because everything else has someone that has to come after it).

We know H and N are both going to have to go before O, so in slots 1-4, but we don't know where (though they have to be in that order). G will come after them, but again, we don't know exactly where.

But wait...G has to come after FOUR people! (H, N, K, and J). That means the only spot still open for G is slot 6, because we need 4 slots before G that are not filled by O.

That means H - N, K - J all go in slots 1-4, but we don't know in what order outside of those pairings.

The answer is (B), we know 2 for sure: I, and G.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation! I know this was a simple game, but I overlooked the question!

I appreciate the help.
