I cannot find what (C) shows in both passages, even in passage A it mentions avoidance of unnecessary detail (L15-16) and in passage B one critic says a failure of redeeming from the tenuity of a sketch.

We can find support for answer choice (E) on the following lines:
Passage A
(lines 3-8)
Passage B
(lines 40-44)
(lines 59-62)
(A) is mentioned in passage A, but NOT in passage B.
(B) is NOT mentioned in passage A, but is in passage B.
(C) is mentioned in passage A (but this still a stretch), but NOT in passage B.
(D) is not mentioned in either passage.
