Q2

Sometimes I feel the answer choices and the passage have slightly different concept...
This question is one of them:
in the passage says it says "he envisaged" and the answer says "the architect should"...envisaged means anticipation but should sounds like s/he gives advice...
Or those subtle changes is not a big issue?
Or did I see wrong part...since it also states "architect must learn as a rule to be an engineer".
(by the way, what's this sentence supposed to mean?? does it match "envisaged"? Or this quotation is from different people?)

Thank you

Hey Strawberry,

Well, it's hard to understand exactly what you mean here, but there will never be a significant leap from the passage to the correct answer. If you think there is, you must be misreading something. Let's look at the answers here to prove it:

(A) Line 36 says "...the architect must learn as a rule to be an engineer," which contradicts this answer choice.

(B) Again, this is the opposite of what Wagner asserted. He believed architects could develop engineering skills, not the other way around.

(C) This is contradicted by lines 43-45: "...art was to exercise the controlling influence."

(D) This makes the same mistake as (C), only more so.

(E) CORRECT. This matches with "....architects will in time succeed in extending their influence into the realm occupied by engineers, so that legitimate aesthetic demands can be met in a satisfactory way." Notice what I've italicized. Wager believed that only architects could meet these demands, which would mean they should learn to do so.

Hope that helps!
