Q20

by lsatodyssey Sat Sep 14, 2013 6:39 pm

I got it down to B and E and went with B because it explicitly showed how specialized roles could increase output.... I didnt see anything about such roles in E...thoughts?

Hi lsatodyssey,

I agree with your assessment of (B). (I can’t quite tell from your post, but perhaps you thought E was correct answer? B is correct!)

We know from paragraph 2 that big factories maximize production by giving workers specialized tasks.

This matches (B)’s description of big bee colonies maximizing honey production by giving worker bees specialized tasks.

(E) doesn’t get at efficiency, production or specialized tasks.

(A) doesn’t get at the issue of scale.

(C) doesn’t discuss specialized tasks.

(D) doesn’t get at the issues of scale or specialized tasks.

Got this wrong because I referenced the wrong part of the text. I took the first sentence from paragraph two, where it says "huge increases in efficiency that could be achieved through increased size". Ultimately all of the answers were bad, some increasing size without increasing efficiency, and vise versa. In the end I kind of justified C and went with that.

I see how B is the correct answer if you take the second sentence to be your guide. But how do you know to take the second sentence and not the first? They talk about different things, one increasing size, and the other specialization.

Hi

Isn't the idea talked in the 3rd para not 2nd para? I was looking at 2nd para as the question says but ...
