Q23

by agersh144 Mon Jul 29, 2013 11:25 pm

I don't understand how B is correct.

Equating science (broad) with biology (specific).

How is that the same as woman medical practioner (specific) with midwife (specific)?

When they come across the term medical practioner they say oh what they really mean is midwife. I get that. Now the author is saying well wait a minute this is not accurate they actually represented a variety of specialities throughout the broad medical community.

Still I'm not seeing how WMP is the umbrella term for midwife respectively. Please explain.

Nevermind didn't read the next sentence where it explained midwives were indeed a subset of medical practioner 44 of 121 so I see how biology being a subset of science makes sense.

Now someone may (should) correct me if I am wrong but I don't necessarily think the order of the words really matters here either way. If we say that A equals B, then B necessarily equals A, right? To my knowledge, this is not something conditional. It is not saying A → B, it is saying A = B and thus you would be able to say B = A.

As for the others...

    (A) It should have said apples and oranges :D . We are not equating two totally different things to each other. Midwife is a subset of medical practitioner

    (B) CORRECT because it is equating a specific group with its subset

    (C) There is no hierarchy happening here

    (D) Like (A), we aren't comparing two totally different things as (member) and ~(member), which are literally opposites, would suggest

    (E) Like (C), there is no hierarchy. The author is not saying that a specific medical practitioner such as a midwife is any better or worse.
