Q24

by bbirdwell Mon Jan 24, 2011 3:24 am

(this abbreviated explanation has been moved from another thread)

Q24
(A) "inaccurate information?" no.
(B) national = personal? yes! this is the whole idea of the passage, that studies in personal psychology are of interest to those studying governments. Governments and people are used interchangeably throughout the passage.
(C) "new method of predicting conflict?" no.
(D) "rational decision-making has severe consequences?!" no!
(E) nope -- this is not contrary to the previous assumptions.

Still a little confused by answer choice B. I'm confused as to how they connected government acceptability of national assets with personal assets. there is no mention of government personal assets is there? Unless stuff that has been 'taken from them' is a personal asset? and they take the conquest of some national territory as also a personal asset?

Just wondering cuz i got this one correct but only through process of elimination but didn't see the connection in B and just hoped I was right!

The research cited in paragraph 2 is based on individuals (ie people, ie "personal"). The outcomes of this research were applied to governments in paragraph 3.

For further context, note the first sentence of the whole passage, as well. "Recent investigations" involve individuals, and they have sparked interest in scholars seeking to understand governments.

"a new method " is the reason why C is wrong? Do you mean risk-accepting is not a new method?

No new method of mediating is mentioned.
