Q24

by wj097 Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:20 am

I had hard time convincing myself (C) is better answer than (B).
Both seems to make some leap as well as include some extreme words.
(B) purely imaginative
(C) so fantastic...nothing is ordinary

Thx in advance

Hey Wj,

This is a very simple question that becomes tricky only if you overthink it. Freud doesn't apply his concepts to fairy tales, because they don't create any kind of conflict with reality. This is because anything is allowed.

B) Freud would not say EVERYTHING in fairy tales is purely imaginary. There are still men and women, wars, castles, rivers, knights, violence, etc. This answer choice just goes too far. There's plenty of stuff that isn't imaginary in fairy tales.

C) The problem, as Freud saw it, is that fairy tales are ALLOWED to have anything imaginary in them, so there are no rules that are being broken.

Hope that helps!

I chose D because "EVERYTHING" in B was too strong, and my gut said no.

But I don't see how it can be C in anyway. "Out of the ordinary" ? "fairy tales are so fantastic"? I don't see how this a/c can't be eliminated by exactly what B was eliminated with.

D is talking about "unconscious expectations" which I was concerned about, but figured to like more than any of the remaining choices. Since it has at least somewhat to do with the world there being so open ended that it doesn't get one to deal with conflicts and issues.

This is my acceptable loss to be honest, so I don't care too much but that's a pretty dumb reason to chose C.
