This one's not easy but I'm not going to give away the process completely. I'd like to see if you can put this together. There is only one possible solution given the constraints and conditional information in the question stem.

It must go: HLJVQSP

Only one answer choice could be true given that sequence.

:?: Atlas staff,

I had difficulty with this one and #5 and couldn't figure it out until I read this explanation. So, it sounds like you are saying that there is only one order that can produce the order: HLJVQSP, then the first tree must get reordered into a straight line: H-L-J-V-Q-S-P ?

Yikes! And here I was trying to keep the pre-existing relationships/lines consistent with all the elements that were NOT changed by the question stem...and struggling to do that.

Suffice it to say that I do not this one: can you just move the elements how ever you need or am I still totally missing something? I think my need to keep everything straight is messing me up...

I came up with another similar looking tree and eliminated answers B & E.

:?: The slide makes it clear but is there a rule about moving the tree around on these 'if' type questions?

For example, I tried to move Q to the left of L versus L to the right of Q and it results in an entirely different (and wrong)diagram?

Good question. The pattern I follow would be to neither move L behind Q nor Q before L, but rather to place Q before L in a new tree and then build on to that the rest of the information contained within the tree.

Adjusting your original tree can be complicated for several reasons. First, if the character being moved around has more than one established relationship, tracking the various impacts can be tough. And second, you don't want to lose your original tree. In this case, this is the last question, so it's not so dire, but for earlier questions, if you adjust your tree, it may be difficult to get back to where you started.

I think I might have mislead you from my post above. So, here's a slide that shows the adjusted tree for Q4. Each television program is relatively ordered except for J.

Each of the incorrect answers violates this new tree. Answer choice (D) doesn't and so is the correct answer.

Matt,

The phone explanation of how to appoach re-ordering was what I was looking for/needed. Thanks!
