So, I'm a little confused by the correct answer being choice (C).

If Julio is in the Thursday PM slot that leaves 5 other options. We know Olivia has to come after Julio, so O must be in the Friday AM or Friday PM slot. So there are only 4 slot/assistants left.

This leaves Wednesday as the only option for the K/R chunk. So thus we have: K/R in Wednesday, J in the Thursday PM slot, and O sometime on Friday. We have two slots left.

But if we dig deeper, we know L can't be on Friday due to O, so L must take the Thursday AM slot. That only leaves N, and since N must be in the afternoon, then O will be Friday AM and N will be Friday PM.

Doesn't that settle the exact positions for all the lab assistants?

How do you get to answer C?

You said everything correctly but just misinterpreted your results.

Thurs and Fri are completely set in stone, but, as you said, we don't know how to assign K and R on Wed. (either one could be AM or PM).

So K and R aren't determined. Remember "which session" isn't the same as "which day".

O, L, and N are determined. Hence 3 others are determined. (be careful you don't count J in your list of how many others are determined)
