.... YET creditors actually benefit?

The second one is a stronger contrast, so it's more justified contextually by the "unexpectedly".

If I'm practicing basketball and I tell you that my primary focus is my foul shot, then you would EXPECT that my other shots are a consideration, though not a primary one.

If I'm practicing basketball and I told you that my primary focus is my foul shot, but this focus is somehow making my 3-point shot much better, THAT would be unexpected.

Can someone please explain more clearly and in detailed of what D actually mean? I am troubled by its wording.
