Q7

by ttunden Tue Apr 22, 2014 2:33 pm

Hello,

I got this question right but it sucked up a lot of my time. I was just so confused with the question stem of " author most likely to agree... relationship between art and literary criticism."

For literary criticism I can find a lot of support from the author in the passage however, art, I can not find. I was searching the passage for a while trying to see where the author talks about art and literary criticism. I was lucky in that I could eliminate answer choices from the authors view on literary criticism but had to guess what the author thinks about art.

Any help?

Thanks

I interpreted art to mean literature, which in this case meant Zora Neale Hurston's book. That was the only relationship discussed in the book, but looking through the passage I didn't see the word 'art' mentioned anywhere, so I think it was a bit of an iffy inference, although not too much of a stretch to think that art discusses literature.

As for the answer choices,

A) This is an attractive answer, but not really supported anywhere in the text, in fact it seems kind of the opposite, that the response of literary critics are just as important as the readers and authors.

B) Not supported anywhere at all, "usually poorly received," (?) we only have one example here, how can we make that conclusion.

C) This one has a nice phrasing that makes it vague but not too vague, and is supported by lines 26-34.

D) Do they? We have a stint in lines 46-50 that perhaps it does affect the way people interpret, which goes against this answer choice. In addition, "most people" and "significantly affect" are definitely not supported.

E) "first consideration?" Unsupported.
