(E) is too extreme. The main point isn't that the imaginary scenes are totally outside of why anyone would be interested in her pictures, or why the author is. Note the structure of (E): "It's X, NOT Y."
If an answer choice like this is to be supported on reading comp, it should be clear that the "Y" in that expression is clearly something the author actually finds irrelevant. Here, however, the author sees a blend, a "combination" (line 46), supportive of (B).
As for the others:
(A) is too narrow. It isn't just about the comedy.
(C) is also too narrow. The passage isn't just about comparing her work to older work.
(D) is contradicted. The point is the viewer's awareness, not lack of it.
