9. (A)

Question Type: Identification (42-48)

Let’s go to the passage and get our point. The only danger here is rushing it and missing what should be a freebee. Paragraph three is where insect adaptations are developed.

(A) is mentioned.

B) is out of scope. The passage doesn’t talk about the structure of plants.

(C) is out of scope. Rate of reproduction isn’t mentioned.

(D) is unsupported. While the passage does mention pollination, it’s not a way in which insects adapt to plant defenses. They’re trying to draw us in with answer choices that are close. For identification questions, we need the passage to explicitly tell us.

(E) is out of scope. Close, but no cigar. The passage doesn’t say this.

too add further

B - the passage states that they avoid plants by identifying flavors or odors or both. B talks about avoiding plants with certain leaf or flower structures, not odors/color. So eliminate since it is not mentioned.

E this isn't mentioned explicitly in the passage. It does allude to insects avoiding effects in some other manner but for this type of question the correct answer has to be EXPLICITLY mentioned in the passage, and this isn't mentioned. so eliminate.
