RC score decreasing

by zhanga Tue Jul 26, 2011 1:32 pm

I've been doing the RC under strictly timed conditions. For PT 9-18, I've only been missing 1 question at most on all of them. But since I've started doing PT 19 on, I've been missing 2-3 questions on the sections.

Are the RC sections getting harder or is there some kind of personal weakness I should look out for? I haven't been doing anything different since I started doing PT19 and on so I'm really unsure of why I'm starting to get more questions wrong.

Any help/tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

The questions do not get more challenging as you move into PT19+. There are so many reasons why you might start missing 2-3 questions (and I couldn't tell if that was per passage or per section). But I would suspect that it's pressure.

If you put too much pressure on yourself and tell yourself, I'm only going to miss 1 (maybe 2) questions per section, that puts a lot of pressure on yourself and makes it very hard to think clearly.

Unfortunately without really getting a sense for you process, it's hard to say exactly what's going on.

Here's the right to take into the passages...

1. what are the central arguments being outlined?
2. who are the proponents of those claims?
3. what is their central evidence?
4. what is the organization of the passage?

If you're paying attention to that information, you'll be as ready as possible for the questions, without wasting too much time trying to absorb all of the information in the passage.

Good luck!
