What are everyone's opinions on note-making?

by tellub688 Sun Jul 14, 2024 7:14 am

Everyday I see conflicting advice and testimonies on notes, there are a tonne of people saying it's useless, some saying it's useful, some saying it's 'enjoyable' and some saying that only specific ways of doing it are useful.

Here are my thoughts, I can confidently say that for me, it's almost pointless. I just do it because A.My school demands it, and B.My parents only have this one benchmark.

They think that it's the most important thing ever, partly because all the over-achiever students LOVE making notes and obsess over the process, and since I'm a B+/A student on a good day, they don't really trust me.

That being said, even I can agree that it feels like it should make a difference, even if the point is just to enjoy yourself and make something pretty that kinda brushes up your knowledge, that's something right?

Yet, I see students obsess over making pretty notes, and not do much better than me on exams, and I also see students with pretty notes do FAR better than me on exams(these are the kinds my parents love to refer to).

A lot of people say you should treat your notes as an extension of your brain and your thinking process, and not worry about readability and neat-ness, this makes the most sense to me but it also seems, idk, wasteful?

Like there is a part of me that just wants to put something pretty on paper, but I can totally understand if that has nothing to do with learning as such.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents, what do y'all think?
